History of Dooley Elementary
Dooley Elementary School is named in honor of Charlie L. Dooley, a respected Plano farmer and dedicated community leader. Mr. Dooley moved to Plano in 1912 and played an active role in the growth of local education, serving on the Plano ISD Board of Trustees from 1930 to 1948.
A strong supporter of education, Mr. Dooley and his wife made a lasting contribution to Plano ISD in 1961 when they donated $50,000 toward the library at Williams High School. The gift was made in memory of their son, J.C. Dooley, who lost his life during World War II—an enduring tribute to both education and service.
Dooley Elementary School opened in January 1981 at a cost of $2.1 million. The school was built to help relieve overcrowding at Forman Elementary and to support the growing Plano community.
Since opening, Dooley has served generations of students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Proudly represented by the Dragon mascot, the school is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where students are encouraged to achieve their highest potential.
